Positive Behavior Support Assistant
Title of Position: Positive Behavior Support Assistant
Directly Responsible to: School Director
OVERVIEW: The Behavior Assistant supports the leadership team to ensure that the campus is safe and orderly. The Behavior Assistant assists in the development of a school-wide culture of learning, respect and community-engagement and builds an atmosphere of safety and accountability. The Behavior Assistant assists students in developing positive and effective social behaviors, supports teachers in managing challenging classroom behaviors; and supports parents in communicating their needs and questions and resolving any concerns. This position also works closely with the school counseling team and school leadership team.
ABOUT US: Arts in Action Community Charter School opened in the Fall of 2011 with grades K-5 and opened Arts in Action Middle School Fall 2016. Both the elementary and middle school programs aim to provide a rigorous academic foundation while developing the whole child through a rich arts program, a daily socio-emotional learning component, and by modeling advocacy through social justice initiatives. Minimum Qualifications:
- TB Test clearance & Department of Justice fingerprint clearance
- Experience working in a middle school setting.
- Knowledge of Positive Behavior Incentives and Support (PBIS) (preferred)
- Conversational and Written Proficiency in Spanish and English (strongly preferred)
- Technology expertise in Google Docs and computer knowledge (strongly preferred)
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Work with the leadership and counseling team and school staff to create an atmosphere of respect among all members of the campus community. Support the communication with parents, faculty, and instructional leaders to ensure a shared vision of a positive school community.
- Cultivate the social-emotional well-being of all students by assisting in the development and implementation of programs and strategies to promote positive social growth and awareness
- Facilitate and/or co-facilitate small group and one on one student support activities
- Meet with students, as needed to support emotional needs and concerns. Following up with the appropriate documentation and communication with relevant parties (e.g. teachers, parents).
- Facilitate frequent communication with parents and families about student needs and concerns.
- Collaborate with the counseling and leadership team in planning and executing student recognition assemblies and positive behavior initiatives.
- Mentor students on a regular basis and implement tracking systems.
- Assist in tracking/entering behavior incident data in to the school’s Student Information System
- Support with investigations when an incident occurs on campus by collecting relevant witness statements.
- Other tasks as needed.
WAGE AND BENEFITS: The hourly for this year-round job is competitive and commensurate with experience (Starting wage $21.00 an hour); a competitive benefit package is included.
