JOB DESCRIPTION: Searching for a collaborative and ready to learn candidate who has prior experience working with students (ideally prior middle school experience) and experience coaching or participating in sports. This position includes during the school day responsibilities (helping to lead the Physical Education program with the PE teacher) and after-school PE responsibilities.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Co-lead daily PE lessons, drills, and skill-building activities for middle school students
- Support with the planning and implementation of a comprehensive, standards-aligned physical education program
- Promote physical fitness, teamwork, sportsmanship, and inclusive participation
- Assist in organizing fitness assessments and tracking student progress
- Support classroom management and ensure safe, structured learning environments during PE classes
- Set up and break down equipment for daily instruction and special events
- Monitor student safety and respond appropriately to injuries or behavioral concerns
- Collaborate with school staff to align PE programming with overall student wellness goals
- Assist with school-wide fitness events, tournaments, and spirit activities
- Support and help lead after-school sports and PE programming
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum of Bachelor’s degree
- Highly Preferred: At least one year of experience working with students in grades 6th-8th (or similar age levels)
- Ability to adapt to program requirements and needs
- Driver’s License
- Highly Preferred: Comfort driving students to and from sports events (using school transportation)
- Preferred: Bilingual in English and Spanish
WAGE AND BENEFITS: This is a part-time, 10-month hourly position for the academic year with the option of summer work. The wage rate is: PE Assistant Teacher: $21.00-$28.00 per hour. Compensation is based on prior experience, relevant certifications and educational units.
